Anime voice actor, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who voices popular characters such as Tails from the Sonic franchise and Nelliel from Bleach, is scheduled to appear at a new anime convention in Tampa, Florida called “Holiday Cosplay Tampa Bay” on December 10-11 at the Tampa Bay Convention Center. Also, O’Shaughnessey voices popular characters in beloved shows like Naruto and Danny Phantom. (Fun fact! She shares a birthday with Florida Comic Cons Managing Editor Mana)

Favorite O’Shaughnessey Character # 1: Miles “Tails” Prower from the Sonic Franchise
O’Shaughnessey’s most famous role is Tails from the Sonic franchise. She has been voicing Tails since 2014 and is the only Sonic voice actor from the games or television shows to be brought in for the new live action films. Tails is Sonic’s best friend and an expert inventor. He has two notable tails he can use to fly and is typically a little more reserved than his friends.
Favorite Character # 2: Ino Yamanaka from Naruto
O’Shaughnessey was first cast as Ino Yamanaka in Naruto, she had no idea it would have as many episodes as it does. Occasionally, it would be years between her recording sessions for the show. Ino Yamanaka is a confident character and Sakura Haruno’s rival. She can be shallow and dramatic, but she cares about her friends and would do anything to protect them.
Favorite O’Shaughnessey character # 3: Nelliel from Bleach
Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck, more commonly known as Nelliel, in Bleach is another recurring character O’Shaughnessey lends her voice. Nelliel is an Arrancar, or in other words, an extremely powerful spirit. She is initially introduced into the show as a small child who is accompanied by two lovable goofballs. Together, they form a dynamic trio of comedic relief. However, it’s shortly revealed Nelliel was once the third highest ranked Arrancar and had only temporarily reverted to a childlike state to recover from a serious wound. As of this fall, Bleach is back with brand new episodes!
Favorite character # 4: Sora Takenouchi from Digimon
O’Shaughnessey plays Sora Takenouchi in Digimon. Sora is kind and sees herself as a caretaker of those around her. Unfortunately, she also equates her self worth to those qualities, so when she can’t help her friends, her self-image suffers. Sora is such a great character because she introduces overcoming self-doubt to young kids.
Favorite O’Shaughnessey character # 5: Jazz Fenton from Danny Phantom
Jazz Fenton is Danny Fenton‘s sister who O’Shaughnessey voiced in the Nickelodeon show Danny Phantom. This character speaks with a voice very similar to O’Shaughnessey’s natural speaking voice. O’Shaughnessey is frequently cast as sister-type characters and this may be her most iconic example of the older sister archetype.
Favorite character # 6: Chocho Akimichi from Boruto: Narutio
O’Shaughnessey was ecstatic to learn she would be the voice of Chocho Akimichi in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations because she would be able to continue acting in the Naruto universe. Chocho is a feisty character who loves to eat. Our favorite Chocho moment was within episodes 67-69 where we see Chocho pretending to be someone she’s not for a boy, but ultimately learning that a person who doesn’t love her when she’s big, isn’t the type of person she likes anyway. The cherry on top was watching her friends look after her and pick her back up when she was down. Boruto is really all about friendship and everyone cares about Chocho because she, herself, is a great friend.
Favorite O’Shaughnessey character # 7: Wasp from The Avenger’s: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
O’Shaugnessey would love to have the same powers as her character, Wasp, in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Wasp can change in size and fly, as well as generate electric shock attacks. Wasp is the funniest and most laid back on the team, and Ant-Man is her love-interest.
Favorite character # 8: Konohamaru Sarutobi from Naruto
Konohamaru Sarutobi was actually the first Naruto character that O’Shaughnessey appears as in Naruto. He makes his appearance in episode 2 of the series and, while he is a bratty kid from a sheltered upbringing, he quickly becomes Naruto’s apprentice, much to his care-taker, Ebisu’s, chagrin. Konohamaru is lovingly referred to in the show as “the honorable grandson,” because of his relation to Third Hokage, or ninja president. He was the first person in the village to have looked up to Naruto, rather than down at him. O’Shaughnessey voices Konohamaru in both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, but had to relinquish the role to Max Mittelman as he can pull off a slightly better adult male voice.
